Exposed to hip-hop culture at an early age, MIZ was influenced by rap music from the beginning. ?Where I?m from it?s either salsa or rap, and I don?t speak Spanish so you do the math.? From Slick Rick and Run-DMC, to Nas and Wu-Tang, MIZ was in love with rap music. Shaped by his surroundings and experiences, MIZ is hip-hop. In 1996, MIZ moved from New Jersey to the west coast due to issues within the family. Soon after moving to the state of Washington, he began writing hip-hop songs for himself with no intended purpose. It was in 2000 that MIZ started to pursue music as a career. ?I had written a lot of material, and I started noticing that whenever I got around others that rhymed at shows or events, people kept telling me how good I was, so I started believing in it more.? After attempting to join, as well as form various rap groups and partnerships, MIZ decided to focus on success as a solo artist.
Towards the end of 2001, MIZ returned to New Jersey to be closer to the city and focus on his music in an area with a larger market. For the next three years his focus was on writing and in 2004 he dropped his first mixtape, ?The Family Affair.? As his fan base expanded, MIZ also recorded tracks on DJ Radio and DJ Scoob Doo?s mixtapes during the same year. At the end of 2004, MIZ returned to Washington to be closer to his family. He continued to expand his musical accomplishments through live shows, recording tracks on other mixtapes, and meeting other up and coming artists in the area. MIZ dropped his second mixtape in June of 2006, ?Many Faces.? MIZ then formed a crew of artists, ?RLC? or ?The Real Life Click,? which is composed of a group of solo artists that support and promote each other. MIZ is currently working on his third mixtape which will feature the RLC, entitled ?Hip-Hop Ain?t Dead,? expected to release early 2007. This mixtape will be hosted by Seattle?s DJ Mr. Supreme. MIZ continually strives to refine his writing and abilities as an MC, while pursuing music as a career.
